Wills, and Estate Administration

Wills

Having a will as part of your estate plan lets you make important decisions now, so they’re not left to chance later. With a properly prepared will, you can:

  • Choose someone you trust to handle your estate;

  • Decide exactly how your assets will be divided;

  • Name a guardian to care for your minor children; and

  • Set up a trust for any minor children.

I offer straightforward will-drafting services for individuals and couples with uncomplicated estate planning needs. This typically means no blended families, no complex trusts, and no business succession planning—just clear instructions for who inherits your assets and who will handle your affairs.

Estate Administration

Applying for probate or administration is a key step in managing a deceased person’s estate in British Columbia. This legal process gives the executor or administrator the authority to manage the estate and distribute assets.

We can assist with the application process for probate or administration, including:

  • Preparing and filing the necessary court documents.

  • Ensuring compliance with BC’s legal requirements.

  • Guiding you through the procedural steps to obtain a grant of probate or administration efficiently.

While we do not handle the full administration of the estate, such as paying taxes or distributing assets, we can provide the advice you need to navigate the probate or administration process with confidence.

Please also note, in British Columbia, “reasonable fees” charged for by a probate lawyer are paid for by the estate, not the executor or administrator personally.
