Accessible & Transparent Billing Practices

At Sarah Abbott Law, we believe that legal services should be predictable and as widely accessible as possible. That’s why we have structured our billing practices to be flexible and client-friendly, avoiding the burden of large upfront retainers.

Here’s how we do things differently:

No Large Upfront Retainers

  • Instead of requiring an initial retainer (often upwards of $3,000), we securely store your credit card details within our trusted, encrypted billing software.

  • You are then billed at pre-agreed intervals (e.g., monthly) for the work completed, making legal services more manageable.

Benefit to clients: No need to come up with a large sum of money upfront—pay for legal services as the work is completed.

Fixed Fee Options

  • Whenever possible, we offer clear, upfront pricing so you know exactly what your legal matter will cost before work begins and what is included/excluded in the service.

Benefit to clients: No surprise legal bills—you’ll know the cost in advance.

Flexibility for Complex Matters

  • While many services can be offered at a fixed fee, some matters are more suited to hourly rates, or require a shift to hourly rate billing due to unforeseen complexities.

  • If any adjustment to billing structure is required during the lifetime of a matter, this will be made clear to you, and agreed with you in advance.

Benefit to clients: You get cost certainty wherever possible, and any necessary adjustments will be transparent.

How Our Billing Practices Work For You

  • No financial strain – Avoid large retainers and pay for work as it is completed.

  • Predictable costs – With fixed fees, you know your costs upfront for many services.

  • Flexibility & fairness – If your case becomes more complex, you are informed and have control over your costs.

  • Easy payments – Secure credit card processing means no hassle with transfers or large lump sum payments.

This approach ensures that legal services remain predictable, accessible, and manageable while maintaining transparency in billing. If you have any questions about how these options apply to your specific matter, please feel free to reach out.

All lawyer-client relationships are subject to a written, signed Retainer Agreement, which explains the above practices in detail.
